Deputy fired and now facing child porn charges

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — A former Hancock County sheriff’s deputy is off the job and free on bond after State Police found child pornography on his phone. Patrick Hoder was terminated from his job late last week just as he was hit with a felony count of distribution or exhibition of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.Bonsai Casino Hoder had been on administrative leave while state police conducted the investigation. According to the criminal complaint, troopers were assigned to investigate the internet-based allegation which used the Bit Torrent computer network with peer-to-peer file sharing. Undercover law enforcement officers received a pair of file downloads from a suspect later identified as Hoder. Troopers said the files included two different videos depicting children under the age of 18 engaged in sexually explicit acts with each other and with adults. Court documents provided graphic detail of the videos’ content. One of the videos was :33 seconds in length and the second was 4:38 in length. Investigators said there were more than 600 images in Hoder’s possession when they searched his phone. He posted $50,000 bond and is due back in Magistrate Court Sept. 12.
